Crash kills 1, closes Jones near Vegas Drive

A man was struck and killed while crossing the street in the west valley Wednesday evening, according to Las Vegas police.

Metro responded to the crash just before 5 p.m. at Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive, according to the department’s traffic site. Police tweeted at 5:30 p.m. warning drivers to avoid the area.

The man, described as being in his 60s, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle that tried to avoid hitting him, Metro supervisor Lt. Nick Farese said.

Traffic on Jones was restricted for several hours while Metro’s traffic fatality detectives investigated the area. It reopened before 10 p.m.
