Crews begin repairs on I-15 damage north of Las Vegas

Crews were working Tuesday to reopen highways that were washed out by flooding on Monday, the Nevada Department of Transportation said.

Emergency repairs were being done “as quickly as possible,” agency spokeswoman Meg Ragonese said.

Interstate 15 from the U.S. 93 exit to Mesquite, about 50 miles north of Las Vegas, remained closed Tuesday and was expected to be closed for about three to four days, Ragonese said.

Crews were removing stuck construction vehicles and were expected to begin work on the base of the road. The base has to be rebuilt and stabilized before it can be paved, Ragonese said.

Southbound Interstate 15, near the Virgin River Gorge near the Arizona and Utah border, was closed on Monday. It reopened shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Utah Department of Transportation said.

State Route 168 between Coyote Springs and Moapa reopened as well as the portions of U.S. Highway 95 and U.S. Highway 93 that were affected Monday.

Ragonese said crews worked overnight to reopen the roads and that restrictions could come from some damaged shoulders. She advised drivers to be cautious when driving through those areas.
