Foundations benefit from ‘Gatsby’ event

Commonwealth, 525 E. Fremont St., will host “A Knight with Gatsby” party beginning at 7 p.m. Friday to benefit the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation and the Tyler Robinson Foundation. The party will feature Prohibition-inspired cocktails, a champagne toast with a mystery Gatsby host, hors d’oeuvres by STK Las Vegas and music by the Moonshiners Band. Hockey fans can hang with the team’s mascots and ice crew. Drawings will be held for tickets to Life Is Beautiful, the Tyler Robinson Foundation Gala with Imagine Dragons and Golden Knights games. Tickets, which include two cocktails and the toast, are $20 at commonwealthlv.com or $30 at the door.

Author plans release party at Eclipse

Children’s book author and illustrator Daria Peoples-Riley will hold a signing and release party for her new book “This Is It,” from 10:30 to noon Saturday at Eclipse Theaters, 814 S. Third St. The book traces the story of a young dancer nervous about her upcoming audition at a dance studio, whose shadow comes to life and encourages her to listen her heart’s song. Attendees are encouraged to order copies of the book through downtown book store The Writer’s Block, at thewritersblock.org/peoplesrileypreorder.

Bring a bottle, share a sip or two

Atomic Liquors, 917 Fremont St., will host its monthly Bottle Share program for lovers of rare beer from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Unlimited pours of select draft beer will be available for $10. But there’s a catch. In order to qualify for the deal, you need to bring a bottle of beer from your private stash that isn’t available in the Las Vegas area to share with the group.

An evening of wine, chocolates, music

Downtown Container Park, 707 Fremont St., will host a pre-Valentine’s Day wine tasting from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. “Love the Wine You’re With” will give attendees the chance to raise as many glasses as they like in the name of love while they enjoy chocolates and live music. Tickets are available for $25 plus a service fee at eventbrite.com or for $30 at the door.

Poetry, music mesh at bookstore event

Local poet Lee Mallory will host an evening of performance poetry and live music on Valentine’s Day evening at Janco Bookstore, 2202 W. Charleston Blvd. The author of eight books promises to become “love’s champion, survivor and inquisitor” for the evening, which he’s calling “The Love Poems: Lee Mallory Unplugged.” The night will also feature the music of drummer Daniel Williams and a surprise musical guest. The free event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
