Dakota Bertschy and Rhys Bertschy have earned their third-degree black belts in tae kwon do.

Dakota, 20, is a graduate of Faith Lutheran Middle and High School and a junior at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, studying criminal justice.

She works as a martial arts instructor.

Rhys, 15, is a freshman at Shadow Ridge High School, where he is an honor student.

Their parents are David and Suzanne Bertschy of Las Vegas.

Mackenzie Schofield graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., on May 29 and has been appointed a second lieutenant.

A 2009 graduate of Coronado High School, Schofield received a Bachelor of Science degree in English and plans to attend undergraduate pilot training in Texas.

Schofield is the daughter of Jack and Melanie Schofield of Henderson.

Reed Gialketsis, 16, will represent Nevada at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s 2013 Children’s Congress July 8-10 in Washington, D.C.

Gialketsis, who will be a senior at Faith Lutheran Middle and High School, is co-president of the JDRF Nevada Chapter Youth Ambassador program.

Anthony Rita has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2011 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School, Rita is the son of Debra Hamano of Long Beach, Calif.

Michael Okazaki, 18, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 565, he collected eyeglasses for the Lions Club’s sight program for his Eagle project.

A 2013 graduate of College of Southern Nevada High School, he was a member of the student council and enjoys table tennis and kendo.

Okazaki is the son of James and Midori Okazaki of Henderson.

Morgan Thompson, 18, has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.

A member of Troop 955, Thompson helped block mine shafts for his Eagle project.

A 2013 graduate of Centennial High School, he was a member of the orchestra and enjoys riding ATVs, snowboarding, playing cello, shooting and mixed martial arts.

He plans a career in physics or engineering.

Thompson is the son of Jim and Reese Thompson of Las Vegas.

Patrick Caddick, 21, has graduated from New York University, College of Arts & Science, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in politics and Irish studies.

He is a 2009 graduate of Valley High School’s International Baccalaureate program.

Caddick is the son of Patrick and Anne Caddick of Las Vegas.

Kerry Warren, 22, has graduated from The Julliard School in New York with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama.

She received the Joseph W. Polisi Prize for exemplifying the school’s values of the artist as citizen.

A 2009 graduate of Las Vegas Academy, Warren is the daughter of Mark and Marilyn Warren and sister of Alex and Leah Warren, all of Las Vegas.

Melissa Zigrosser of Las Vegas has been named to the dean’s list at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., for the spring 2013 semester.

Kaylee Vitale of Las Vegas has been named to the dean’s list at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, for the spring 2013 semester.
