An officer on a motorcycle fell while trying to stop a vehicle that ran a red light Friday night near downtown, Las Vegas police said.

The traffic officer fell while following the vehicle about 7:15 p.m. near Clark Avenue and Maryland Parkway, Metro Lt. Brian Cole said. The vehicle made a U-turn in traffic, and the motorcycle went down, Cole said.

The officer was taken to University Medical Center, where he is being treated for minor injuries.

Police are still searching for the vehicle he was trying to stop.

The vehicle and motorcycle never touched, Cole said.
