The third annual Queen of Hearts event honored nine women for their talent, resources and leadership Feb. 6 at Neiman Marcus at Fashion Show Mall. The 2014 honorees are: Madeleine Andress, Whitney duBoef, Alexandra Epstein, Nancy Houssels, Dr. Florence Jameson, Dr. Beverly Mathis, Sandy Miller, Meghan Mossler and Savannah Prenger.

Communities In Schools of Nevada announced that Edward Cecchi and Gene Galloway have been inducted to its board of directors. Edward Cecchi has spent the past five years working as a community advocate in Las Vegas. Gene Galloway is president and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas branch of Plaza Bank.

Air Force Airman Hailee M. Wilson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Wilson is the daughter of Teresa Butler and Steve Wilson and granddaughter of Barbra Stein, all of Henderson. She is a 2012 graduate of Green Valley High School.

Air Force Airman Jacob P. Bach graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Bach is the son of Sean Bach of Henderson and is a 2013 graduate of Southeast Career Technical Academy.

The Public Education Foundation’s Board of Directors elected new board members, including: Kami Dempsey-Goudie, executive director of Public & Government Affairs for Cox Communications, Las Vegas; Kris Hipwell, a board member of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation; Roberta Lynne Martin, an entrepreneur, businesswoman and seasoned civil and criminal litigator; Robert Richardson, chief executive officer of Community Ambulance; and Thomas J. Schoeman, past president of JMA Architecture Studios.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Marcus A. Rodriguez graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Rodriguez is the brother of Daniel Walker of Las Vegas.

Angelica Harkinson of Henderson was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., has announced that Corin Galati of Las Vegas, a sophomore majoring in chemical engineering and chemistry, was named to the university’s fall 2013 Dean’s List.

Kourtney Willey of Las Vegas was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Charleston in Beckley, W.Va.

Several area students have been named to the Dean’s List at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. They include: Derek Dickson and Eugenia Stanisauskis of Henderson; Steven Kaleta, Danielle Kilmer, Eric Klein, Gerald Mitchell, Randi Rowins and Taha Shaikh, all of Las Vegas; and Vanessa Khalifa of North Las Vegas.

Rudy Gerson of Henderson at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., has been placed on the fall 2013 Dean’s List of the College of Arts and Sciences for Excellence in Scholarship.

Kimberly Renee Barnes of Henderson is among the 1,111 students named by deans at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., to the fall 2013 Deans Honor Roll. Barnes is a senior majoring in general studies.

Elizabeth Soto of North Las Vegas was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. Soto is a graduate of Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Kyle McKnight, a senior criminology major and a resident of Las Vegas, has been named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at The College of New Jersey in Ewing Township, N.J.

Air Force Reserve Airman Brandon A. Yrigan graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Yrigan is the son of Art and Eleonor Yrigan of Las Vegas and is a 2012 graduate of Southwest Career and Technical Academy.

Zachary Schaffer of Las Vegas was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at the University at Albany in Albany, N.Y.

Justin Chen of Henderson was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I.

Summer Holloway of Henderson has been named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Simpson University in Redding, Calif. Holloway’s major is biology.

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, honored the following students with Gold Stars for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2013-14 academic year: Cory Andrew Yslas of Henderson and Angelica Lynn McNerny, Dillon Ross Berkabile, Marvin Leo Latigar Pagayonan and John Charles Pauli, all of Las Vegas.

Matthew Cottam and Taylor Erling were named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Krislyn Rose Campos of North Las Vegas is one of 2,976 Eastern Kentucky University students who earned Dean’s List honors for the fall 2013 semester, at the school in Richmond, Ky.

Andreis Castronova of Henderson has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2013 fall semester at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Zochitl V. Medrano graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Medrano is the daughter of Rosa Medrano and granddaughter of Juana Figueroa, both of North Las Vegas. She is a 2009 graduate of Desert Pines High School.

Air Force Airman Colin T. Jamero graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Jamero is the son of Justin Jamero and Stacey Wolfgang of Las Vegas. He is a 2013 graduate of Silverado High School.

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles has announced several area students have been named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List: Inyene Akpan, Jorgina Arballo, Nicole Goss, Allison Hauser, Lauren Hollifield, Kelly McCart, Megan Ralphs, D’Ana Smith, John Sullivan, Jordan Turner, Sasha Vancura and Alyssa Venezia, all of Las Vegas; and Taleen Atamian, Scott Bosely, Emily Dean, Cristina Medina and Gabriel Siniscal, all of Henderson.

Air Force Airman Alexus A. Gardner graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Gardner is the daughter of Anthony and Renee Gardner of Las Vegas. She is a 2013 graduate of College of Southern Nevada High School.

Air Force Airman Karrie M. Higley graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Higley is the granddaughter of Jeri Higley of Henderson.

Mohawk Valley Community College, in Utica and Rome, N.Y., has announced that Laura Lomaglio of Las Vegas has completed the fall 2013 semester with academic excellence and qualified for the President’s List.

Local students have been named to the University of Delaware’s 2013 fall Dean’s List: Emma Doney and Julia Eppes of Las Vegas and Matthew Fischer of Henderson.
