Fire burns bridge, 5 acres at Clark County Wetlands Park

Fire destroyed a 20-foot bridge at the Clark County Wetlands Park, county administration said Friday.

The fire started about 10 p.m. Thursday in the Duck Creek area of the park at 7050 E. Wetlands Park Lane, near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Boulder Highway, a news release said.

It spread over about 5 acres, the release said, and the Clark County Fire Department contained it about about 3 a.m. with help from the Bureau of Land Management.

A cause has not been identified.

Besides the bridge, which is part of the Duck Creek Trail, vegetation burned. The Nevada Division of Forestry will continue to clean up the area through Friday, the county said.

Visitors are asked to stay off Duck Creek Trial while fire crews handle hot spots. Access to the bridge site is blocked.

It should be re-opened by Saturday morning, the county said.

The rest of the 2,900-acre park, a popular site for hiking and bird watching, remains open.

County officials point out the fire sparked just a few days after the Las Vegas Valley got heavy run, which pushed trash and debris into the park, a collecting point for washes that run through the valley. It costs more than $2.2 million each year to clean up trash and debris from public areas and flood control channels, the county said.
