Fire destroys apartment in central Las Vegas

A one-bedroom apartment was gutted by fire late Thursday night fire near Martin Luther King Boulevard and U.S. Highway 95, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.

Firefighters found the second-floor apartment on fire at the Siegel Suites, 100 S. Martin L. King Boulevard, about 10:30 p.m. They were able to contain the blaze to the apartment and had the fire out in less than 10 minutes.

Firefighters believe the fire started on or near a sofa in the living room. No one was home at the time of the fire.

At least three people received assistance by the American Red Cross and one security guard was treated and released for minor smoke inhalation.

A few other apartments saw minor heat and smoke damage. The damages have estimated to $35,000.

The incident remains under investigation.
