Henderson 5-year-old hospitalized after being found in pool

A 5-year-old child was hospitalized Tuesday night after being found in the family’s swimming pool, according to Henderson police.

First responders were called to the 200 block of South Texas Avenue, near South Water Street and East Atlantic Avenue, about 7:30 p.m., Henderson police spokeswoman Michelle French said. Firefighters administered CPR, and the child was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, de Lima campus.

The child’s condition was not available as of about 9:30 p.m.

Another child was involved in a drowning incident in the 2800 block of North Walnut Road, near Alto Avenue, about 8:30 p.m. A Las Vegas police supervisor confirmed the incident, but could not provide additional information as the case was being handled by the Clark County Fire Department, which did not answer calls seeking details.

“The hardest part is that drowning is preventable,” French said. “We always need to be extra vigilant around swimming pools. You’ve got to remember the little ones.”

The Clark County Fire Department offers swimming pool safety tips on its website at www.clarkcountynv.gov/Depts/fire/Pages/SwimmingPoolSafety.aspx and says children should always be supervised and wear flotation devices.
