Henderson man gets 8 to 20 years for fatal shooting caught online

A former Army Reservist was sentenced to eight to 20 years Friday for a fatal shooting that authorities said was captured online.

Colin Lowrey, who cut a deal with prosecutors just before his trial and pleaded guilty in August to voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon, admitted to shooting Cherish Pincombe in October 2013 but said he did not know the gun was loaded.

Prosecutor Jake Villani said Lowrey, who originally faced a murder charge, received the maximum sentence according to the charges.

According to court documents, Pincombe was shot in Lowrey’s home in the 700 block of Taliput Palm Place, near Gibson and Sunset roads in Henderson.

Lowrey told police he left his .45-caliber handgun unloaded on a desk and went to the bathroom. When he returned, Pincombe asked him to point the gun at her head, Lowrey said. He then shot her.

Pincombe’s family members wore T-shirts with the woman’s image and carried a picture of her to the hearing before District Judge Jennifer Togliatti.

“It was the most we could get,” said Jessica Pincombe, the victim’s older sister.

Lowrey apologized to the family.

According to a Henderson police report, Lowrey “believes that Pincombe retrieved the magazine and inserted it into the gun while he was in the bathroom.” Physical evidence did not show Pincombe’s fingerprints on the magazine.

At the time of the shooting, the two had been engaged in an online video chat with someone who was never identified. Villani said the person was believed to be in Europe, but was never found.

Jessica Pincombe called her sister’s death “devastating.”

“She was my best friend,” Pincombe said after the hearing. “I never knew that a pain like this existed.”
