Henderson police arrest two barricaded suspects

Two people were jailed after barricading themselves inside an apartment for almost six hours Friday, Henderson police said.

Four adults and two children were in an apartment at Camden Commons, 6530 Annie Oakey Drive, near Green Valley Parkway and Sunset Road, when police were summoned about a disturbance around 1 a.m., police said in a news release.

Police said a 16-year-old girl fled the apartment and told police that her mother, Melissa Williams, 35, had hit her, brandished a gun and threatened to kill herself and her husband, Roderick Merritt, 56.

After negotiations with police, three adults, including Merritt, and two children came out of the house, police said.

Williams refused to come out and was arrested when a Henderson police SWAT unit came into the apartment around 6:45 a.m.

Merritt also was arrested. He and Williams were booked into the Henderson Detention Center, police said.

Williams faces charges of possession of drugs and a gun, domestic battery and obstructing police. Merritt faces a charge of obstructing police.

Both also had traffic warrants, police said.
