Judge sets bail for Metro detective accused of attacking prostitute

A judge set bail at $150,000 Friday for a Metro detective accused of robbing, beating and trying to sexually assault a woman.

Last week, the victim told police that detective Michael Kitchen paid her $100 for her “time and company,” and when she told him that sex would cost another $150, he became “angry and ultimately violent.”

Kitchen, 35, faces charges of battery with intent to commit sexual assault resulting in substantial bodily harm, battery with intent to commit a crime, robbery, and attempted sexual assault.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Sciscento ordered him to remain under house arrest if he makes bail, to surrender his passport and all firearms and to have no contact with the victim or anyone else associated with the case.

Kitchen initially told officers he drove a police vehicle to an apartment in the 2500 block of Flamingo Road for a massage, as advertised on a website, a police report said. He told detectives a massage at a legitimate business is too expensive.

The woman was taken to Desert Springs Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion and a fractured wrist.

A detective in the firearms division, Kitchen has worked for Metro since September 1999. He was paid $173,836 in 2013. He was placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
