Las Vegas man’s death in June ruled result of traffic accident

A man’s death in June after a car crash in the east valley has been classified as a traffic-related fatality, Las Vegas police said Thursday.

Melvin Richards, 76, was driving westbound on Flamingo Road on June 11 when he stopped at the intersection of Mountain Vista Street.

Police said the Las Vegas man paused on a green signal, then swerved over a median and hit another car that was stopped at the red light on Mountain Vista. Richards was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for his injuries and a possible medical condition. He died three days later.

Police received Richards’ autopsy report last week, which concluded that he died from the traffic collision.

Richards’ death marks the 107th traffic-related fatality the Metropolitan Police Department has investigated this year.
