Las Vegas police investigating suspicious death in east valley

A woman in her 70s was found dead Wednesday in her east valley home, and Las Vegas police are investigating the death as a possible homicide.

Lt. Dan McGrath said anytime an elderly person is killed at home, Metro gives the case top priority.

“We are going to stop at no end to find out what happened to this poor woman,” he said. “There will be a substantial amount of manpower put on this, and hopefully we can get some leads and catch these suspect or suspects.”

McGrath said the woman’s body was found by the cleaning service company she had hired to come to her home Wednesday morning. The woman lived alone in the 3200 block of Dawnflower Street, a gated community near Desert Inn and Pecos roads, and was found dead in her bedroom.

Officers were dispatched about 10 a.m., and rime scene investigators found the residence ransacked and burglarized.

McGrath said there were no signs of forced entry.

He said the investigation showed the woman was alive Tuesday and was out of her home running errands during the afternoon. The cause of death is unknown.

McGrath said the community has cameras around its only entrance. Investigators will be looking through surveillance footage, as well as going to door to door to talk with neighbors. The woman’s relatives were on their way to Nevada from out of state.

Anyone who has information about the death may call Metro at 702-828-3111 or Crime Stoppers at or 702-385-5555.
