Las Vegas teen killed in Pahrump crash

One 17-year-old Las Vegas girl is dead and another is in critical condition after a rollover crash late Thursday night in Pahrump, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the girl who died as Rhea Janolino.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. on State Route 160 at Gamebird Road. A black Mazda Tribute, driven by the survivor, was southbound on SR 160 and crossed the center line. The driver veered to the right and then turned back to the left, causing the car to overturn and roll into a travel lane, NHP Trooper Loy Hixson said.

Janolino, the passenger, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car. She was flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where she died.

The driver, also 17, was taken to Desert View Hospital in critical condition. Troopers do not believe she was impaired while driving, Hixson said.

After the Mazda came to rest, it was struck by a Hyundai, he said. The passengers in the Hyundai were not injured.

This was the NHP’s 35th fatal collision for 2015.
