Lightning strike causes fire at Henderson home

Lightning struck a home and caused a fire in Henderson on Thursday morning.
About 4 a.m., the Henderson Fire Department said lightning struck an exhaust vent on the roof of a two-story home in the 2700 block of Moliere Court, south of Democracy Drive, spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.
Fire officials said a woman was home with her dog and, after hearing a loud bang, was alerted to the fire by smoke detectors.
Richards said firefighters found the fire by using hand-held thermal imaging technology. The firefighters then cut a hole into the roof to extinguish the fire, which was contained to the attic.
No injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be started by natural causes, Richards said; the cost of damage was estimated to be $75,000.
