Man accused of stabbing man 40 times indicted

A man suspected in a deadly 2012 stabbing was indicted by a Clark County grand jury Wednesday.

Giovanni Kohler Kurtze, 24, faces charges of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, grand larceny auto, and robbery with the use of a deadly weapon.

Kurtze is accused of stabbing 57-year-old Frolian Abellera more than 40 times inside Abellera’s northwest valley apartment in October 2012.

He was extradited last week from a California prison, where he was serving time on a burglary case, to face charges in Nevada.

Driving the victim’s gray 2004 BMW 325i while on probation for another crime, Kurtze was involved in a high-speed chase with officers from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on Oct. 14, 2012.

Prosecutors said Abellera had been killed that weekend, his body found lying in a fetal position in the bathtub, and one of Kurtze’s palm prints were recovered from a vanity.

Kurtze, who remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, is scheduled to appear in court next month.
