January 24, 2015 - 2:32 pm
A knife-wielding man who tried to kidnap a woman leaving the Galleria at Sunset mall on Thursday was arrested that day, Henderson police said Saturday.
Toyanell Kuykendall, 18, approached an 18-year-old Las Vegas woman and threatened her with a knife while telling her to go with him about 3 p.m., police said.
A struggle ensued and the woman was able to escape, police said. She was not harmed.
Officers searched the area. About 5:30 p.m. a mall employee identified a man who matched Kuykendall’s description, police said.
Kuykendall was arrested and taken to the Henderson Detention Center where he remained Saturday.
Kuykendall is facing assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree kidnapping charges. Bail was set at $350,000.
Additional details on whether the incident was isolated or if there was a patrol increase because of it were not immediately available, city spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.
