Man arrested in Panama indicted in Las Vegas killing

A man arrested in Panama in the stabbing of two men in August was indicted Wednesday on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Sergey Mkhitaryan, 32, was arrested Nov. 19 by Las Vegas police in collaboration with federal agencies.

Police said Mkhitaryan killed Avetis Shilgevorkyan and tried to kill Aram Keropyan on Aug. 20.

After having dinner with the two men, he stabbed them with a knife just outside of the Shish Kabob House, 6620 W. Flamingo Road, near the intersection with Torrey Pines Road, police said.

Shilgevorkyan was transported to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Mkhitaryan was indicted on one charge of murder with a deadly weapon, one charge of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, and one charge of battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, court documents show.

He is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on March 7.
