Man dies after car crashes with truck on I-15 north of Las Vegas

A man died over the weekend when his Cadillac crashed into the back of a semi tractor-trailer on Interstate 15 north of the U.S. Highway 93 off-ramp.

The Clark County coroner identified the driver of the Cadillac as 43-year-old Carson Keel Winget of St. George, Utah.

A Nevada Highway Patrol investigation said Winget was traveling southbound on I-15 in the right travel lane just before 2 a.m. Saturday. He was traveling at a greater speed than the Freightliner semi tractor-trailer in front of him. Winget failed to slow down and crashed into the back of the semi, police said in a statement.

Winget was the only person in the Cadillac and was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

The 61-year-old male driver, the semi's sole occupant, wasn't hurt in the crash, the highway patrol said.

This is the second traffic-related fatality in the Nevada Highway Patrol southern command's jurisdiction for 2016.
