Man faces attempted murder charge after 2 hit by car in Las Vegas

A 21-year-old man faces an attempted murder charge after hitting two people with his car Saturday, Las Vegas police said.

Ivan Daniel Jimenez was arrested Saturday after a vehicle ran into the Stateside Lounge, near Las Vegas Boulevard North and Washington Avenue.

According to the police investigation, Jimenez ran his SUV into the building — and a woman — before backing up. Then, witnesses told police, he accelerated and hit a man who had tried to help the wounded woman.

Police said the man and woman hit by Jimenez were engaged. They were taken to University Medical Center, where the man was treated for face and head injuries he sustained from hitting the SUV’s windshield. The woman had bruising on her legs.

The couple told police they had just left a library when the SUV drove up to them and its occupants began making threats and racial slurs. The man tried to fend them off with an umbrella before Jimenez started ramming them with the vehicle.

Two witnesses to the crash pinned Jimenez down until police arrived.

Jimenez was arrested and faces charges that include attempted murder, battery with the use of a deadly weapon and battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. Officers found what looked like traces of cocaine on Jimenez’s clothes, and after an investigation, a DUI drug charge was added to the case against him.

He is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center and will appear in court Wednesday.
