Man killed, woman injured in I-15 rollover
November 22, 2014 - 8:02 pm
A 19-year-old man died and an 18-year-old woman was in serious condition on Saturday following a single-vehicle rollover crash that temporarily shut down Interstate 15, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
They were traveling north on I-15, near mile marker 60, about five miles north of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in a green 1997 Nissan Pathfinder just before noon.
NHP said the vehicle’s left tires left the edge of the roadway, causing the driver to overcorrect his turns back onto the highway twice before the car hit the median and rolled over onto the southbound lanes.
The driver and passenger, both from Lincoln, Neb., were taken to University Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. NHP trooper Loy Hixson said the woman was in serious condition, but conscious. She was airlifted to the hospital.
The highway was closed about three hours.
It was NHP’s 57th fatal accident for 2014.
