Man rushing to catch bus is struck by another vehicle in North Las Vegas

A 44-year-old man died Sunday morning after he was hit by a car Sunday morning in North Las Vegas.

At about 6:15 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Camino Al Norte, near the northwest corner of Craig Ranch Regional Park, where the man was struck by a vehicle as he tried to cross a street, said North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Ann Cavaricci.

Witnesses told police the man got off a bus, crossed in front of the stopped bus from east to west on Camino Al Norte, outside a crosswalk, and was hit by a vehicle traveling north. Witnesses also told police that before he exited the northbound bus, the man indicated he was in a rush to catch the southbound bus.

He was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, Cavaricci said.

The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating, she said. Speed does not appear to be a factor.

Northbound traffic on Camino Al Norte, north of Craig Road, was closed until about 9 a.m.
