Man wielding knife closes Container Park

Parts of Fremont Street were shut down Saturday afternoon when a man threatened suicide.

About 12:20 p.m., Las Vegas police received a call about a man who had a knife to his throat, threatening bystanders to stay away. The incident happened near Container Park, where the front entrance was briefly closed. Police said people could still enter Container Park from the entrance on Ogden Avenue.

After negotiating with the man, they were able to persuade him to put down the knife. When they tried to approach him, the man lunged for the knife, according to police. Police shot him with a non-lethal bean-bag shotgun and took him into custody.

The man’s injuries are not life-threatening and there were no other injuries.

He wasn’t immediately identified.
