Masked robber shot, killed by dental office employee identified

A masked robber shot and killed by a dental office employee Wednesday night has been identified as Veronica Clay, Clark County coroner's office staff said Friday.

Clay, 45, was one of two robbers shot by the employee of the office at 2801 Charleston Blvd., near the intersection of Rancho Road, police said. The second robber, a man described as being black, wearing dark clothing, and standing between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-8, ran away from the scene, leaving a trail of blood around the building.

Police say the pair entered the office about 7 p.m., their faces covered by ski masks, and held a patient and employee at gunpoint, asking for money. The man was armed, and the two were also possibly seeking narcotics, police said.

At some point a doctor was pistol-whipped, and the employee was able to run to his vehicle, get a handgun and confront the man and woman as they fled through stairs. It wasn't immediately clear what happened next, but the male employee fired rounds at the pair, fatally striking Clay and wounding the man.

Clay was taken to University Medical Center, where she later died.
