Mesquite man pleads guilty to child pornography charge

A Mesquite man pleaded guilty Tuesday to a child pornography charge for uploading images of child pornography onto the Internet and possessing thousands of images and videos of child pornography, including some depicting child rape.

Brian Michael Brewer, 37, who has a prior felony conviction from Washington state for sexually molesting a 7-year-old girl, pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Court Judge Howard D. McKibben to one count of receipt of child pornography. Brewer is scheduled to be sentenced on March 22 and faces 15 to 40 years in prison and lifetime supervision as a sex offender.

According to the court records, an Internet business notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in July that one of its users with a Nevada Internet address had uploaded images of suspected child pornography to its online bulletin board site, Padlet.

The center reached out to Las Vegas police, and a detective with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated. Brewer was living at the Mesquite address from where the pornography uploads were originating. Mesquite is about 70 miles northeast of the Las Vegas Valley.

More than 10,000 images and 288 videos of child pornography were stored on a laptop and thumb drive seized with a search warrant in September, including images and videos of prepubescent children being raped by adult men and violent conduct.
