Metro investigates ‘suspicious death’ of woman in northwest valley

Homicide detectives are investigating the "suspicious death" of a woman found in a pool of blood at a northwest valley apartment complex Sunday, Las Vegas police said.

Police were summoned about 4:30 p.m. to the SkyPointe Landing Apartment Homes in the 5900 block of Sky Pointe Drive, near the intersection of U.S Highway 95 and West Azure Drive, Metro officer Laura Meltzer said.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found face down in an open area between two buildings, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. A person at the complex told police the woman was sitting on the ground before she slumped forward. "I don't know for sure if she's been shot," he said.

Officers found a trail of blood coming from near a black SUV parked in the complex and were trying to determine if the blood was connected to the death, McGrath said. "There's a blood trail going down and then in between the buildings."

The woman was wearing casual clothes with a "very short" hairstyle, McGrath said.

Police were waiting for the Clark County coroner's office staff to arrive to help identify the woman and continue with their investigation.
