Mother, child hit by car in east Las Vegas Valley

A mother and her child were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center Thursday after being hit by a car in the east valley.

Las Vegas police responded to Karen Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway, just after 5:30 p.m.

The two pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk when they were hit, police said. The driver of the car remained at the scene.

At the time of the collision, the child appeared to have serious head trauma, Lt. John Liberty said, but it was later determined that the injuries were less serious than they first seemed.

As of 9 p.m., police had not determined if the driver was at fault.
