Motorcyclist dies in early Saturday morning crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the 215 Beltway between Aliante Parkway and North Fifth Street early Saturday morning, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A pickup traveling west on the Beltway crossed the median into the path of two motorcycles that were traveling east about 4:10 a.m.

One motorcyclist was able to avoid a crash, but the other one collided with the pickup.

The motorcyclist, who the Highway Patrol said was a man, was thrown off the bike. Both the motorcycle and the pickup then caught fire.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the pickup, a man and a woman, were taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of the Beltway were closed about four hours while troopers investigated.
