November voters will select new Henderson justice of the peace
May 3, 2016 - 5:34 pm
The Clark County Commission voted Tuesday to let voters next November decide who will fill a Henderson justice of the peace vacancy.
The job is vacant because Justice of the Peace Rodney T. Burr resigned to take the municipal judge seat that became open with the death of Henderson Municipal Judge Diana Hampton.
The filing period runs May 23 to June 3. Commissioners opted not to hold a primary election after discussing cost and likely low voter turnout.
A special primary would have cost $160,000, according to Joe Gloria, the Clark County registrar.
Burr’s resignation is effective May 11. Court vacancies are often handled using a list of rotating pro tem judges — mostly attorneys who serve part-time.
