Parts of Las Vegas see rain, hail

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning this afternoon for the central and northeast Las Vegas valley.

According to meteorologist Justin Gibbs, about a quarter-inch of rain doused those areas about 3 p.m. and winds were reported as high as 60 mph.

Gibbs said the storm was centered from downtown and stretched to near Nellis Air Force Base.

The storm began about 2:30 p.m. The warning lasted until 4 p.m., Gibbs said.

Small hail was reported at the Las Vegas Review-Journal, near the intersection of Bonanza and Martin Luther King roads, about 3 p.m.
