Police release video of truck used in fatal drive-by shooting

Metro on Wednesday released a video and description of the truck used in a drive-by shooting that killed a bicyclist in the east valley on Saturday.

Police said the truck was a dark, full-size 2014 or 2015 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup.

Surveillance video shows it heading east on Owens Avenue around 4:18 a.m. as it pulls past the bicyclist. That's when someone inside the truck guns down the bicyclist. The driver then turns left on Mary Jane Drive and speeds away, leaving the bicyclist for dead.

The truck was last seen turning right on Stanley Avenue going east.

The man on the bike, Arthur Earl Cowell, 23, stumbled into the nearby Alpha Gardens Apartments parking lot at 1695 Mary Jane before collapsing. He was transported to University Medical Center, where the coroner's office said he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police have not identified a motive for the shooting, and it was unclear if it was related to drug or gang activity.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call homicide detectives at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous at 702-385-5555.
