Supporters hope to stage a revival at the Huntridge Theater

Supporters of a Las Vegas theater that opened in 1944 and enjoyed a revival as a Grunge-era band venue in the 1990s hope to muster enough cash to give it a third act. But they’re going to need to raise a lot of money in a short time.

About 150 people met Thursday at the Mesquite Club on St. Louis Avenue to discuss plans to acquire and remodel the Huntridge Theater before a historic designation restricting changes expires in 2017.

It was the first community meeting regarding the Huntridge since downtown entrepreneur Michael Cornthwaite, Life is Beautiful festival creator Rehan Choudhry and First Friday operator Joey Vanas made a deal with the Mizrachi family to acquire the theater.

The trio made a $60,000 deposit to hold the property and have another $50,000 payment due in about a month. They will need about $100,000 more to attract investors or other funding to cover
$4 million needed to make the purchase by the end of the year.

They are using the online site Indiegogo to try to raise $150,000 to show investors the venue has community support.
