Tark’s 5-year-old grandson leaves hospital

Danny Tarkanian’s 5-year-old son, Jerry, has returned home after being treated for a stroke, but the boy will need further treatment in Southern California.

The boy needs the care of pediatric specialists and equipment only available in the Los Angeles area, family members said Monday, and arrangements were being made for his transportation there.

The namesake grandson of the late former UNLV basketball coach suffered a stroke and was hospitalized at University Medical Center on Friday. The boy was receiving home health care from nurses aiding in his recovery, and he has made tremendous progress, his mother, Amy Tarkanian, said.

“He has the greatest attitude,” Amy Tarkanian said. “He was so determined to get out of the hospital.”

When the boy first was admitted to UMC, his mother could only guess at what he was trying to say because his speech was so affected.

“His speech has improved dramatically,” she said.
