A teenager fatally shot by a homeowner when police said he and another teen were burglarizing a central valley house on Wednesday has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.
Manquise Leshon Adams, 17, of Glendale, Ariz., was shot in the head and neck, coroner's office staff said Friday.
Another boy, also 17, was shot twice and was listed in critical condition at University Medical Center, Las Vegas police said Wednesday.
Police received a call about a burglary at 11:16 a.m. in the 1400 block of Daybreak Road, near Torrey Pines and Vegas drives.
The homeowner, only described as a man, had been sleeping upstairs and heard a crash, police said. He grabbed a gun, and first shot the other teenager through a window.
After, the man told detectives, he saw Adams coming upstairs and also shot him, police said. Adams died at the doorway.
Officers found the first boy shot bleeding and moaning in the backyard of an adjoining home, police said. He had surgery at UMC.
Metro Lt. Dan McGrath on Wednesday said people have a right to defend themselves in their homes, but that homicide detectives were going to look at every fact before police decide whether to suggest criminal charges.
