Teen suspected in sexual assault turns himself in

A teen Las Vegas police said is responsible for the sexual assault and carjacking near the intersection of Durango Drive and the 215 Beltway turned himself in Tuesday.

Nikholeus “Niko” Cleland is facing charges of first degree kidnapping, robbery with a deadly weapon, sexual assault with a deadly weapon, open and gross lewdness, assault with a deadly weapon and battery to commit sexual assault. Cleland, 17, has been certified as an adult and was booked at Clark County Detention Center.

Police said a woman was driving near the intersection of Durango Drive and the 215 Beltway when a man confronted her at gunpoint, assaulted her and took her vehicle on July 22.

Police released surveillance footage of the man they think is responsible the following day. He was originally described about 22 years of age, standing 6 feet tall and weighing about 160 pounds. In the footage he has dark hair and was last seen wearing a red shirt and black pants, police said. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
