Three adults, dog displaced by early morning fire

A man and a dog were trapped on a roof by a house fire early Sunday morning, according to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

Smoke and flames were coming from the window of an upstairs bedroom at 4901 Vega Lane, near Torrey Pines and Lone Mountain when firefighters arrived. They received the call about the two-story stucco home at 2:36 a.m.

A man and a dog were sitting on the roof over the garage waiting for help, the fire department said. His exit was blocked by the flames, so he had to go out the window.

After the man and his four-legged friend were rescued, he told firefighters the bedroom blaze was started by careless smoking.

Neither the man nor the dog were injured by the fire, which was contained to the bedroom and extinguished quickly.

Three adults who lived in the house found themselves with nowhere to sleep in the middle of the night. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Fire, heat and smoke did damage to the second floor, estimated at $20,000.

The fire was determined to be accidental. No firefighters were injured.
