The top-ranked tower runner in the world has claimed another victory at The Strat and set a record time by a quarter of a second.
Soh Wai Ching, 28, of Malaysia, took 6 minutes and 45.6 seconds to win Scale the Strat on Sunday. He also won in 2022 with as time of 6:57.
Alexis Trujillo of Mexico had the record at 6:46 with his win in 2020. The race timer checked prior year results to the hundredths and determined that Wai Ching was .27 of a second faster than Trujillo.
The female winner, Maria Elisa Lopez from Mexico, beat longtime U.S. number one and former world number one Cindy Harris, by a second.
This race was also the Towerrunning USA Championship race, so the top male and female U.S. runners are recognized as national champions, Harris and Mark Ewell.
More than 600 runners participated to climb all 108 floors and 1,455 steps at the Strat Hotel & Casino to raise money for the American Lung Association.
The annual “Fight For Air” stair climb is the American Lung Association in Nevada’s major annual fundraiser and helps fund the nonprofit’s lung health education, advocacy and research efforts.
