Two arrested in hit-and-run of officer
September 5, 2014 - 10:56 am
Two men were arrested Thursday night in connection with the hit and run involving a Las Vegas police officer near Eastern Avenue and Windmill Lane.
Jacob Groh, 18, of Henderson, has been booked on suggested charges of attempted murder, drug-related DUI and multiple traffic-related offenses. He is accused of driving the car.
Aaron Miller, 18, of Las Vegas, has been booked on a suggested charge of failure to give an officer information at an accident scene.
Metro traffic officers were at the Eastern and Windmill intersection directing traffic after a crash at about 5:55 p.m. While attempting to move the accident from the road, officers saw a car speeding toward the intersection.
Police said the officers repeatedly told the driver of the car to stop. After making a sudden stop, an officer ordered the driver to roll down his window but the vehicle accelerated, striking a second officer and dragging him a short distance.
Two men drove away in the car, going west on Windmill, and crashed into another car. They then ran, jumping a wall into a neighborhood northwest of the crash scene.
Miller was arrested in the 8000 block of Aspendale, where officers said he gave them Groh’s name. Groh was taken into custody about 9:43 p.m. as he was walking toward his home, according to police reports.
The injured officer, who has not been identified, was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Miller was no longer in custody Friday afternoon. Groh remains in custody.
Formal charges have not been filed against either man.
