Two Las Vegas master plans rank among best-sellers in U.S.

Two local master plans ranked among the 15 best-selling planned communities in the nation, according to a Wednesday report.

Summerlin, on the western side of the Las Vegas Valley, placed No. 6 for sales in the first half of 2015, with 327 home closings, based on analysis by Maryland-based real estate consultant RCLCO. Summerlin’s sales were up 32 percent compared with the same period in 2014, when the master plan sold 248 units and ranked No. 13.

RCLCO researchers attributed the community’s gains in part to the October opening of a 1.6 million-square-foot shopping, dining and entertainment district at Downtown Summerlin, which the company said provided “additional retail and entertainment” for Summerlin’s residents.

The community is on track to beat its 2014 total of 437 closings.

Providence, in the northwest, saw sales dip 9 percent, to 256 closings, down from 282 closings in the first half of 2014. Still, the volume was enough for 13th place.

Mountain’s Edge, in southwest Las Vegas, fell completely from the top 20 as it “nears its final closeout stage,” RCLCO said.

The nation’s best selling master plan was Florida’s The Villages, an age-qualified community that sold more than 1,000 units in the first half of 2015.
