Western Las Vegas Valley drenched; rain headed to Nellis, Henderson

Heavy rain drenched the western Las Vegas Valley about noon Saturday, and more storm clouds were heading toward Henderson.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning at 4:20 p.m. for the Overton Beach area that would last two hours.

The thunderstorm was moving northeast and was predicted to hit the eastern section of the Valley of Fire State Park and Northshore Road.

The earlier storm developed over the Spring Mountains with 45 mph wind gusts, but without any major flash flooding, according to the weather service.

The Summerlin community of Las Vegas was beginning to clear up about 1:30 p.m.

The Nellis Air Force Base area, as well as the mountains southwest of Henderson, could get some rain Saturday afternoon, according to the weather service.

At 2 p.m. the temperature was 89 degrees at McCarran International Airport, the weather service’s official monitoring site, with 41 percent relative humidity.
