Woman dies after jumping from Spaghetti Bowl overpass

A 36-year-old woman died after crashing her car into a barricade on the Interstate 15 flyover at the Spaghetti Bowl on Tuesday and then jumping nearly 100 feet down to a U.S. Highway 95 exit ramp. The woman jumped to her death less than a half-hour after a domestic violence incident at her residence, police say.

At 5:06 p.m., Metro received a call about a domestic violence incident on the 5200 block of Carol Clara Circle. The woman was involved, though it wasn’t clear what happened during the dispute, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

Later, at 5:33 p.m., Metro received another call about the same woman, Meltzer said. Witnesses said the woman appeared to purposely crash her car into a barricade on Interstate 15 heading north before exiting the car and jumping to her death on the U.S. Highway 95 exit ramp, toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The woman was transported to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Traffic on the Interstate 15 flyover and U.S. 95 exit ramp was brought to a standstill after the woman jumped. All lanes were cleared by 7:30 p.m., police said.
