Women accused of trying to smuggle phone to Strip shooter
Three women accused of trying to smuggle a cell phone into High Desert State Prison for accused Strip shooter Ammar Harris appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom Thursday.
Olga Gonzalez, Reann Gadson and Charmain Simmons each face charges of furnishing a portable telecommunication device to a state prisoner, bribery of a public official and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to a complaint from the Nevada Attorney General’s office.
Harris, who faces the death penalty for a shooting on the Strip that left three people dead last year, is serving prison time on a separate sexual assault conviction. He was moved to Ely State Prison, Nevada’s highest security penitentiary, after he was caught with the phone in his cell at High Desert, about 40 minutes north of Las Vegas.
Prosecutors said the Gonzalez, Gadson and Simmons helped purchase the phone and arranged to have it brought into the prison through a corrections officer.
The three women are due back in court August 20.
