Ohio murder suspect, 2 others arrested near Kingman

KINGMAN, Ariz. — An Ohio trio wanted in a multiple-state armed robbery spree — one of them in a double slaying committed in Ohio — were captured Thursday in northwest Arizona.

Mohave County Sheriff Jim McCabe said a high-speed chase began at 12:08 a.m. when a deputy spotted an FBI alert suspect vehicle on Interstate 40 just west of Kingman.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer and a state Department of Transportation vehicle joined the pursuit that left the interstate, entered Kingman and ended about 10 miles north of the city, he said.

McCabe said the three vehicles boxed in the 2003 Dodge minivan that turned onto Quail Crest Road and became disabled in the desert. The sheriff said authorities gave chase when the suspects fled the van on foot.

He said brush under one of the vehicles caught fire. The vehicle exploded and all three vehicles were destroyed in the resulting fire.

The first two suspects taken into custody about 1:55 a.m. were identified as Robert Roy Clark, 29, of Dennison, and Tabatha Marie Hazel, 26, of Canton.

An air and ground search continued for another eight hours before the third suspect, Jeffrey Caley, 26, was apprehended about 10 a.m. after threatening to commit suicide before surrendering.

Clark is wanted in the late January killings of an elderly Ohio couple whose remains were found in their burned vehicle, abandoned on a country road. Clark, Hazel and Caley are also wanted for armed robberies committed in three states after the double homicide.

Information regarding the possibility of local charges and any court appearances in Arizona was not immediately available.
