1 ejected, 1 trapped in vehicle in US 95 crash

Two people were seriously hurt, one critically, in a one-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 95 in the northwest valley, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. southbound U.S. 95 near Elkhorn Road south of Durango Drive, trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

A black Ford Explorer with four occupants was traveling south of Durango Drive in the left travel lane. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted left and struck a concrete traffic barrier head-on, the highway patrol said.

The male passenger in the front seat was ejected and taken to University Medical Center in critical condition. The female driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Las Vegas Fire Department; she was airlifted to UMC with serious injuries. The remaining two passengers were taken to UMC with nonlife-threatening injuries, Buratczuk said.

The southbound lanes were shut down for a helicopter landing for about 10 minutes.
