Male driver critical after hitting wall in southwest Las Vegas

A Las Vegas man is in critical condition after crashing into a southwest valley wall Saturday evening in rainy weather.

Police said 43-year-old Victor Manuel Benitez-Tizoc lost control and drove his 1997 Toyota 4Runner into a wall bordering 3891 Lilac Haze St., near South Fort Apache and West Viking roads, about 4:15 p.m.

Evidence at the scene showed Benitez-Tizoc was driving north on Fort Apache when he lost control. He was transported to the University Medical Center, where he is in critical condition, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.

A watch commander initially told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the driver died in the crash.

No other vehicles were involved, and there were no other injuries, police said.

The crash remained under investigation as of Saturday night, but police said driver impairment and the wet conditions may have been factors.
