Cooler temperatures, chance of rain loom for valley

Sunday's toasty conditions served as a reminder that it's still summer.

It's probably not the heat's last hurrah, but the valley might get "dramatic" relief early in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

The thermometer on Sunday reached 107 degrees, 6 degrees above average, meteorologist Chris Outler said. Don't expect Monday to be much different, Outler said. The high is forecast to reach 106 degrees.

However, the valley can rejoice Tuesday when high temperatures are only expected to reach a very cool 95 degrees, Outler said. There will be a lot of clouds and maybe some rain. The bad news is that periodic scorching temperatures are still possible into September, Outler said.
