Las Vegas basks in warmest Valentine’s Day since 1957

Though Valentine’s Day falls in the winter, Las Vegas temperatures suggest that we’re in the middle of spring.

High temperatures in the valley reached 78 degrees Saturday, tying a record, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Lericos. The record was set in 1957.

Saturday’s numbers were 16 degrees higher than average for Valentine’s Day, he said. The average high for Feb. 14 is 62 degrees.

“It’s definitely unusual,” Lericos said.

Overnight lows for this time of year are also above average, Lericos said. Temperatures only dropped as low as 48 degrees overnight Saturday, according to the weather service. The lows are expected to reach 55 degrees overnight Sunday.

Having your air conditioners ready might be wise because the weather is expected to stay warm through Presidents Day, which is Monday, possibly reaching the 80s, he said.

By the middle of the week, “fairly dry” conditions are expected to knock down the temperatures to the upper 60s and lower 70s, which would still be “above normal,” Lericos said.
