Las Vegas Valley welcomes cooler temperatures, sunny skies

After a stormy night, the Las Vegas Valley had a calm Saturday, and sunny skies and light winds are on tap for the rest of the holiday weekend.

Thunderstorms moved through parts of the valley late Friday night and into early Saturday morning. Strong winds were reported in Centennial Hills, Summerlin, Aliante and North Las Vegas.

Saturday had a 30 percent chance of afternoon and evening showers, but most parts of the valley had not seen rain as of 7 p.m., meteorologist Jim Harrison said. Saturday saw a high of 97 degrees and a low of 72, Harrison said.

Slightly cooler temperatures, sun and winds around 10 to 15 miles per hour are expected for the rest of the weekend, the weather service said..

“This should be a nice holiday weekend,” he said. No rain is expected after Saturday.

“It will be pretty dry all week,” Harrison said. Sunday and Monday will both likely see highs near 104 and lows of 82.

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to have highs of 105, meteorologist Dan Berc said. Wednesday and Thursday will be breezy with 15 to 20 mph gusts.

Toward the end of the week, the expected daytime highs are 106 for Thursday and Friday, he said.
