Rainy weather, hail moves into Las Vegas Valley for the weekend

Rain and hail fell Friday morning in the Las Vegas Valley, and the gloomy weather is expected to stick around through the weekend.

Friday saw a high of 68 degrees, 10 to 15 degrees below normal, according to the National Weather Service.

The stormy weather resulted only in trace amounts of light rainfall, according to National Weather Service meteorologist John Salmen.

Hail was reported in parts of the valley and in Sloan, south of Las Vegas. These conditions are expected into Saturday, according to the weather service.

The Las Vegas Fire Department is warning Las Vegans to stay alert via Twitter because of heavy lightning in Centennial Hills, Tule Springs and west of Summerlin.

Gusts over 25 mph were recorded Friday, Salmen said.

Saturday will see a high near 73 degrees and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, but they are expected to be more scattered, according to the weather service.

The slow-moving storm, which originated off the the coast of California, will take its time to pass over the valley, the weather service said.

Saturday has a 20 percent chance for rain, and Sunday has a 10 percent chance for rain, Salmen said. Sunday’s high is expected to reach 78 degrees.
